About the book

Katie Mitchum likes her life colorful, cluttered, and entirely her own. Sharing a lab with Alex Randall was never part of the plan.

As chief forensic scientist for Silver Gap, Katie is used to long hours, impossible cases, and people underestimating her before she proves them wrong. What she is not used to is working elbow to elbow with the county medical examiner. Alex is brilliant, exacting, and far too easy to get under her skin. Which would be easier to ignore if he weren’t also the most distracting man she’s ever met.

She tells herself the friction between them is nothing more than forced proximity. That becomes harder to believe when a grisly excavation brings them even closer. Days in the lab turn into late nights, shared rides, and a growing connection neither of them can explain away.

But the deeper they dig into a case tied to buried victims and long-hidden secrets, the clearer it becomes that someone is paying attention. When the danger turns personal, Katie and Alex are forced to trust each other in ways neither of them expected.

The closer they get to the truth, the harder it becomes to deny what’s happening between them.

And the more dangerous it is to walk away.
