A QUIET KIND OF COMFORT: THE LILAC INN

by Ellie Whitaker, Staff Reporter

Some places just let the soul breathe.

The Lilac Inn, nestled just outside of town at the edge of Pike National Forest, is the sort of bed-and-breakfast where worries have a way of loosening their grip. During a recent trip to Silver Gap, I booked a stay at the inn and found myself settling in faster than expected.

From the moment I stepped through the solid wood front door, the shift was immediate. The parlor, lit by warm golden sconces and wrapped in rich vintage wallpaper, feels both welcoming and lived-in in a way that can’t be staged. My room was in a word, enchanting. The walnut, four-poster bed covered in high thread count, cream linens invited me to linger in bed long after I woke each morning.

The rest of the property carries that same sense of continuity. With its late-1800s interior aesthetic and immaculately kept grounds, the inn feels gently removed from the rush of everything outside it. Mature lilac bushes line the property, giving the inn its name. On the warm, late-spring breeze, their soft scent lingers, further drenching me in nostalgia of quieter days gone by.

If the setting draws you in, breakfast is what convinces you to stay.

The proprietor, London Scott, runs the kitchen with an easy confidence that shows up in every morsel. Mornings at the inn aren’t rushed. Guests drift into the dining room at their own pace, drawn by the smell of fresh-baked pastries, bacon, and strong coffee. I quickly fell into the habit myself, lingering longer than intended over homemade cinnamon rolls and scones, a heap of bacon and local sausage, and a cup full of gourmet coffee that never seemed to run dry.

What makes The Lilac Inn stand out, though, isn’t just the setting or the food. It’s the way the entire experience comes together. There’s no pressure to fill your time, no expectation beyond simply being there. You can spend an afternoon on the porch with a book, take a quiet walk along the edge of the forest, or do nothing at all and feel like that was time well spent. It's a place meant for rest, recharging, and peace.

And once you've settled in, it's surprisingly hard to leave.

In Parker’s Landing, the truth doesn’t always stay hidden. Sometimes it’s witnessed. When a single moment puts one woman too close to something she was never meant to see, quiet coastal life gives way to rising tension and unanswered questions. As the investigation begins to unravel what really happened, it becomes clear that what she knows could change everything—and put her directly in the path of someone who has no intention of letting the truth come out.
