Line editing and interior book formatting
Why Choose Me?
I’ve been a writer most of my life. It’s my passion. I love storytelling and bringing the ideas in my head to life, and I love helping others do the same. I honed my writing and editing skills in college as a history major with an English minor, later going on to get a Master’s degree in Public History. It was through my university experience that I learned the nuances of writing. Of constructing and deconstructing language to effectively deliver a powerful and emotional tale. Since then, I’ve put what I learned into practice, authoring my own books and editing others.
MY SERVICES:
LINE EDITING:
What is a line edit?
A line edit is an in-depth look at how well you present your writing. This type of edit should come before a copy edit and after a developmental edit (if you need one—some don’t). It involves checking your manuscript for how well it flows—how well it reads. I take a detailed look at how you structure your sentences, the words you use, and your style. I also look for long, clunky sentences as well as improper or confusing words and sentences. As part of this, I will offer suggestions for adding or removing details, rewording sentences, or perhaps moving entire sections of the book to different points in the manuscript. My goal is to help you polish your prose to its fullest potential while maintaining your unique voice.
Why should I get a line edit?
It’s simple. First impressions are everything.
No matter your goal—whether it’s to self-publish and gain readers or to land an agent and a publishing contract—you want your book to sing and make your audience come back for more, demanding you write the next book sooner rather than later. That takes an impartial, experienced editor. One who can elevate your writing and fine-tune your story through constructive revision. My goal is to make your book flow seamlessly through the storyline so that your characters and plot take center stage.
What a line edit isn’t.
A line edit is not a clean-up of grammar and punctuation. I will address some of those issues, but my primary focus is on the readability, flow, and style of your book.
What kind of books I edit.
Like most editors, I limit the types of books I take on. I am most comfortable with romantic suspense and mysteries, but I will take most projects that fit a contemporary romance mold. I will also consider some fantasy, so long as it’s on the romance side of the fantasy world. If you’re unsure whether we’d be a good fit, please fill out my contact form. Consultations are free!
INTERIOR FORMATTING:
Putting your book's best face forward isn't all about the editing. You also need an interior file that's easy to read and flows well. I offer interior formatting services starting at the basics (front matter, body, back matter), to the more elaborate with chapter images and headings. I do not limit the books I take on for formatting.
**NOTE: I do not make the chapter images and headings. You will need to supply those.
