A Picture Really is Worth a 1000 Words (or more!)

What do you see and feel when you look at this picture?

Do you imagine the past? When it was teeming with missionaries, spreading God’s word to the inhabitants of the Texas Territory? Do you see the desolation time has wrought? Does it give you the willies?

I love this photograph. It’s of the ruins of St. Dominic’s Church in D’Hanis, Texas. When author Leslie Marshman posted it to Instagram a few months back, my first thought was, “That is a hauntingly beautiful picture.” It’s one of those that invokes an instantaneous visceral reaction; one so deep you feel it down to your soul.

BUT…

I had a second thought that was much more unusual—and this is how you can tell I write suspense novels for a living: “That would be a fantastic place to hide a body.”

I KNOW! *insert face palm*

But as soon as the thought popped into my head, the first scene for a new novel quickly followed. I put down the phone and picked up the computer. Within minutes I had a rough first draft of an opening scene. For those of you who get my newsletter, you’ve read that scene. Since then, I’ve written a lot more and I think you all will love this book.

Before this one, my favorite of all my books was book 2 in my urban fantasy romance series. Leo from that story is the type of character I love to read. But this one—*sigh*—their love story is so sweet. Throw in a teenager with a cheeky attitude and a sick, twisted serial killer and I have a new favorite book. I absolutely cannot wait to share this story with you. If you want exclusive sneak peeks of this book, sign up for my newsletter. To sweeten the deal, next month, ONLY newsletter subscribers will be entered into a drawing to win some awesome A Beautiful End swag.
