The Latest on my Bookbinding Projects
If you’ve been around here long enough and subscribe to my newsletter or follow me on Facebook, you know that one of my favorite hobbies is rebinding copies of my books (and books in general, really). My husband bought me a Cricut for Christmas in 2023, and it’s gotten a workout since then. I started out just doing giveaways with the custom rebinds, but earlier this year, I opened it up for pre-orders at my author signings. I’ve had so much fun creating custom covers for people.
The very first book I rebound was A Beautiful End.
When I started, I scoured Instagram for bookbinders and watched their reels to figure out how to do it. YouTube’s selection of “How to” videos was sorely lacking. My first few books weren’t the greatest. 🫤 They weren’t terrible, but there was definitely room for improvement. I’ve learned a lot since then, though! Like where to buy supplies.
At first, I used this Wooqu book cloth from Amazon. It’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with it, and I’ll probably use it again if I can’t get the better stuff elsewhere. I still get my book board and my glue from Amazon. But all my fancy end papers and most of my book cloth? Yeah, it now comes from Hollander’s. They have AMAZING stuff. I used their products to create these for my BRAE pre-orders this past June:
Aren’t they gorgeous? I had a lot of fun designing them and putting them together.
Currently, I’m working on a couple of Broken Bow books for Electric City Love Con. I’m debating making a few extra to sell the day of. What do you think? Would you buy a custom rebind at a reader convention? If so, what are some things you’d like to see on the covers? Which books do you think I should do?
